stasi.nl is an e-depot about the large multinational companies and institutional organisations that monitor our public and private society. The e-depot is a digital archiving environment that ensures long-term access to digital objects which would otherwise be threatened by rapidly evolving software and hardware platforms as well as media decay. From traditional investigatorial techniques to the invisible practices of gathering and classifying (personal) data: stasi.nl collects scientific research, contemporary art and journalism on this matter.

stasi.nl is a work in progress; design and content will be enhanced and improved. Founded in 2006 exclusively by a female critical consumer (1976) -no corporate money, no advertising, no hidden agendas- stasi.nl raises public awareness of information and communication technologies' increasing impacts on culture, society and politics.

The word STASI in stasi.nl is a "homage" to the former Stasi (from Staatssicherheit), the main security (secret police) and intelligence organization of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany).
The internet country code top-level domain .NL in stasi.nl is an act of honor or exploitation to the long history of nonconformist printing in the Netherlands, that goes back to the 16th Century.
